My husband and I had the wonderful privilege of going away this past weekend with 50 others couples from our church. The annual weekend getaway was as wonderful and we heard it would be. Time together, meeting new couples, and being encouraged in our marriage by couples who have been together for 1- many years more than us.
Since we are the newly weds we got to participate in the relay game: Blindly tossing a marshmallow for the other one to catch, stuffing way to many balloons inside huge pajamas while wearing them, trying to swing and catch a marshmallow on a string and lastly trying to eat a carmel apple without touching it,which was all fun and messy of course, but we won! The games, conversations and atmosphere all made for a great experience.
One of the best parts was learning more about communication.
Brandon and I are complete opposites in many things, well most things. We like to eat, like some of the same music and love Jesus. Past that, we are different. Many people have differing opinions on whether opposites attract or not, I say it works for us. Brandon compliments me everywhere I fall short and I am able to do the same for him. We are able to build each other up and we love and appreciate each other for it.
This comes in with communication too. We are able to openly talk with one another when we need to. But since we communicate so differently we have to take the time and make an effort to understand one another. We have spent so many of our conversations with one another talking about how to communicate, but learning more about each other was wonderful. My favorite quote from the weekend was "Communication connects the heart". This is when we communicate on a personal and deep level. We know this to be true because when we share our hearts, hopes, dreams, and feelings with one another we feel connected, closer and growth with one another. The encouragement to do this daily was what we needed. We all know this to be true, in our relationships we feel closer to our friends, family, and spouses when we share with each other.
The second best part was getting away with my wonderful husband, coming home more excited to spend time with him, continually realizing I am so blessed and so lucky to have a man perfect for me.
Here are a few pictures from the weekend...
